Position Summary:

Thanks to a federal DOE TIF grant of $17M over the next 5 years to help Mastery significantly upgrade our approach to talent, we are making big capacity building investments in our recruitment team. To that end, we are seeking a leader who can support and execute a best in class vision for recruitment outreach. This position is part of Mastery’s recruitment team.

 

The Mastery recruitment team works to ensure that the highest quality mission-aligned teachers join Mastery. The Manager of Recruitment Outreach will support the recruitment team in our efforts to regularly keep in touch with our broad base of eligible candidates and grow a robust pipeline. This position provides the opportunity to tangibly impact the greatest determining factor of a child’s educational success: teacher quality. This position is ideal for an individual who possesses project management and operations skills, and a “geeky” passion for seeking out great candidates who could be a fit with Mastery.  

 

Responsibilities of the manager will include but are not limited to:

Outreach Planning and Coordination

  • Assist in the design of a year-long outreach plan that systematically builds a short- and long-term teacher talent pipeline
  • Design and implement regular opportunities for high-quality candidates to learn more about Mastery (e.g., host webinars, open house events, etc.)
  • Coordinate Mastery’s professional development workshops for national and regional partners
  • Manage talent recruiters to execute a variety of outreach events and ensure that the recruitment team builds a robust database of names of talented teachers, school leaders, and network professionals
  • Plan travel logistics for outreach events across the country

Systems Creation and Project Management

  • Source candidates for specific openings and for broader build out of our contacts data with enough specific data to enable targeted marketing
  • Establish pathways for systematic outreach to our current contacts
  • Manage the recruitment team’s contact management system to track outreach attendance and events
  • Complete complex projects to support the recruitment team (e.g., ensure accuracy of all outreach data)
  • Deliver systematic and personalized follow through after every outreach event
  • Support Director of Outreach, Data and Operations in compiling and analyzing outreach data
  • Design systems and processes with the Director of Outreach, Data and Operations to ensure that the recruitment team’s efforts are maximized as Mastery deepens its impact

 External Relationship Building

  • Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with mission aligned organizations and individuals to attract the nation’s top talent to Mastery
  • Meet one-on-one with high priority candidates
  • Staff select external events and be a warm, knowledgeable ambassador for Mastery
  • Host teacher and school leader candidates for in-person interviews as needed

Writing and Communications

  • Write monthly recruitment newsletter for teacher and school leader candidates to promote upcoming opportunities and events within Mastery
  • Share regular announcements of opportunities to like-minded organizations
  • Maintain online calendar of outreach events

Qualifications:

  • Ability to proceed in the absence of clear and immediate answers to problems; flexible enough to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed
  • Some background in candidate sourcing and recruitment outreach
  • Customer service mindset: experience responding to and partnering with end users or customers to solve challenges; high degree of empathy and ability to see many sides of the same issue. While direct experience with teachers and principals is not required, the desire to serve end users well and operate with a customer service approach (responsive, active listening, closing the feedback loop) is key.

Education and Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s and 3+ years of work experience
  • At least 2 years of recruitment outreach and/or sourcing
  • Experience in other talent function (e.g., development, human capital) preferred but not required
  • Strong computer skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office required
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization skills required. Must be able to multi-task in fast paced environment
  • Strong customer-service and communication skills (both written and verbal) required
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Ability to work well independently, as well as in a team required
  • Results driven orientation

Physical Requirements:

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required such as traveling to NST office and  maneuvering in office space-reaching file cabinets, filing, faxing, coping, typing, mailing, and making phone calls; Must be able to sit for up to two (2) hours looking at a computer monitor, using a keyboard and mouse and typing.

Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for travel when necessary
