As a Relay Resident, you will work with lead teachers to create a joyful, learning community that is driven by Mastery’s mission and vision. After a successful first year in the Residency, participants will be prepared to transition into a full-time lead teaching position at Mastery. Residents will complete their Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree during their second year with Mastery.

 

Residents Earn:

  • A Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from Relay, an innovative program focused on practice-based teaching methods and new educator support (Tuition will not exceed $18,000 for both MAT and certification, and in most cases will be significantly less through generous scholarships and tuition support by Mastery, AmeriCorps and Relay);
  • A Pennsylvania teaching certificate (pending successful completion of Praxis tests);
  • Full-time salary and benefits with a pathway into hiring after a successful first year in the program;
  • Extensive weekly training and deliberate practice sessions in proven, highly-effective teaching techniques;
  • A Residency year, allowing Residents an opportunity to engage with expert teachers and best practices, in preparation for a lead teaching position

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •   Commit to ongoing professional development in the spirit of continuous improvement
  • Work with lead teachers to do the following:
    • Implement curriculum and utilize classroom routines and procedures with consistency
    • Analyze student assessment data to measure progress and use data to inform instruction
    • Engage families in their children’s education by building relationships and maintaining regular communication
    • Other responsibilities as requested
  • Provide small group instruction to students for academic support
  • Collaborate in grade level teams to discuss student work, share best practices, plan events for joy and humor, and ensure student mastery of standards
  • As instructional and classroom management skills gradually increase, you may be responsible for providing whole group instruction to students

Education and Experience:                 

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a record of personal, professional, and/or academic achievement (Official copy of transcript is required for application to Relay. Please submit official or unofficial copy to Mastery)
    • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
    • Please reach out if your undergraduate GPA is below a 3.0
    • A passing score on the Praxis exam is a condition to attend the first day of class at Relay (Please submit your score report to Mastery. You will be asked to upload your report when you apply to Relay)
  • Commitment to and experience (preferable) working with underserved communities
  • Determination to drive student achievement and set high expectations for all students
  • Demonstrated expertise in subject area
